My Crystalia Glass Experience

My project involved repeated drawing errors, conflicting delivery and production updates, missed follow-ups, unanswered requests for a basic timeline, and an unexpected $840 lock charge after I paid a $578.30 deposit.

This page documents one customer’s experience using saved emails, drawings, estimates, and invoices. It is not affiliated with Crystalia Glass LLC.

The main issue

Before paying, I made the lock a clear requirement, not an afterthought. Crystalia’s written response did not tell me that locking hardware would substantially increase the quote. Instead, it said locking functionality was available and that I would select the handle later with my project manager.

The difference was especially frustrating because Crystalia did provide pricing before the deposit when I asked about frosted glass. But when I said the latch or lock was a firm requirement, the response moved past pricing and told me I would choose a handle later. The additional cost was not identified until much later in the project.

Redacted email exchange showing my pre-deposit latch or lock requirement and Crystalia's response that locking functionality was available and handle options would be reviewed later
Pre-deposit email exchange. My name and email address have been redacted.
Original estimate$3,735.00
Later lock charge+$840.00
Revised estimate$4,643.93

My understanding was that the later handle selection was part of completing the door we had already discussed. I did not expect the required locking functionality to become a separate $840 change after the deposit and drawing process.

What happened next

1

The first drawing had no latch

The first drawing did not show the requested latch. I clarified the requirement and selected a handle from the available options.

Redacted email exchange in which I say the drawing does not appear to latch and Crystalia sends a lock catalog
After the first drawing, I pointed out that it did not appear to latch. Crystalia sent a catalog of locks. Personal identifiers have been redacted where present.
2

The second drawing still had no latch

Even after that clarification, the second drawing again omitted the latch. A third drawing finally showed the correct hardware, and I signed it.

Redacted email showing the second drawing still listed no lock and Crystalia acknowledging that engineering missed the note
The second drawing still listed the lock as N/I. Crystalia replied that engineering had missed the note. Personal identifiers have been redacted where present.
3

The expected payment request never arrived

After I signed the corrected drawing, I heard nothing for about a week. When I followed up, I was told I should have received a payment request, but I had not received one.

Redacted email thread showing the corrected drawing was signed, follow-ups about installation, and a promised payment request
I signed the corrected drawing, followed up about installation, and was told accounting would send the payment request shortly. Personal identifiers have been redacted where present.
4

I was told delivery was expected within a week

I had asked about scheduling the installation. Instead of receiving an installation timeline, I was told the product was expected to be delivered within the coming week.

When I pressed for an installation window, I was told there was no clear timeline but delivery was expected within the coming week. Personal identifiers have been redacted where present.
5

Two weeks later, I learned production had not started

My next follow-up went unanswered. I eventually called and spoke with another representative, who told me production had not started because I still needed to pay an invoice. That conflicted with the earlier statement that delivery was expected weeks before.

The written record shows my unanswered follow-ups. The later statement that production had not started was made to me by phone. Personal identifiers have been redacted where present.
6

I was then asked to sign another drawing

Shortly afterward, I received another request to sign a drawing. I replied that I had already signed the corrected drawing and did not receive an explanation.

Redacted email asking for a shop drawing signature and my reply that I had already signed the drawings
I received another signature request and replied that I had already signed the drawings sent on July 22. Personal identifiers have been redacted where present.
7

I asked for a basic timeline before paying the invoice

The invoice was eventually sent. Before paying it, I asked for a rough production and installation timeline because communication and scheduling had already been a recurring issue. I did not receive a response.

Text message asking whether production would take about two weeks followed by about two weeks for installation
Before paying, I asked whether the rough expectation was about two weeks for production and another two weeks for installation. I did not receive a substantive response. Personal identifiers have been redacted where present.
8

The handle I had been told to choose later became an $840 addition

When it was finally time to complete the handle selection, the locking hardware appeared as an additional $840 charge. My original estimate was $3,735. The revised estimate was $4,643.93. I had not agreed to that change order.
